NHK Report: Hands-Free Shoe Remover

Japan is facing severe aging issues, with the elderly population aged 65 and above accounting for a significant proportion of the total population. According to surveys conducted by the United Nations and the World Bank in 2018, Japan has a staggering 34.76 million people aged 65 and above, representing 24.48% of the total population. From the data, it is evident that by the year 2065, the population aged 65 and above will constitute approximately 38.4% of the total population, compared to 28.1% in 2018, marking a significant increase of 10%.

Furthermore, the proportion of the population aged 75 and above has nearly doubled, rising from 14.2% to 25.5%. Even by the year 2035, it is projected that approximately one out of every three individuals in Japan will be elderly. This highlights the pressing need for solutions to assist the elderly in their daily lives.
